Submit a Composition

If you are a Canadian composer and would like to submit a composition, please use the form on this page.   You can also fill out the form by clicking on this link.

We are in the early days of the CEC, and rehearsals are expected to begin in October 2024, with our first performance in January or February of 2025.

If you are submitting more than one composition, please fill a new form for each. Please allow at least 4 weeks for the adjudication process.

Performance vs Workshop

The “workshopping” of a piece means that it will receive a certain number of minutes of rehearsal, which will be livestreamed and recorded.  Workshopping a piece is meant for a composer to hear certain elements they may not be sure about, for the purpose of making adjustments.
The selection committee may choose to send a piece to workshop if they feel that it has a lot of potential, but that certain elements would benefit from having the composer hear their music sung, and make adjustements as needed.  A composer may choose to submit a piece for workshopping and specify the more “experimental” elements or sections they would like to hear.

Composers will be invited to attend virtually or in person every workshop, and will have opportunities to give and receive feedback, even to make changes between sessions.
A workshop is a great opportunity to fine-tune commissioned works before sending a final score to the choir.

As we are in the early days of the CEC, we are limited in the number of pieces we can choose, and may have limited voices available.  For this reason, here are a few things to bear in mind.

  • Your music doesn’t need to be “experimental,” we accept all types of choral music.
  • We cannot provide feedback on your composition.
  • Less voices required have better chances of being selected.
  • A capella works may have better chances of being selected.
  • If you can create a “score follower” video of your work, this would be helpful.  Musescore can easily do that and upload to Youtube.
  • Please only submit compositions that are choral (several voices).  We do not provide arranging services of any sort.
